    The Planets Obelisks

I set the planet obelisks up in 2000 to mark the millennium.   On each obelisk is a disc representing the size of a planet or the sun to the same scale as the distances between the planets, represented by the distances between the obelisks.  The intention is to enable pupils to visualise the emptiness of the system, and the relative size and positions of the planets.  The positions of the planet obelisks are such that they represent the positions of the planets in their orbits on January 1st 2000.  It was a tricky operation setting this up to fit within the school grounds and avoid buildings and sports pitches.
